JACK COULTHARD
I made my home in Somerset almost 45 years ago and was a lecturer in Drawing and Painting at the then Somerset College of Art in Corporation Street.
In 1970 Annley Juda included one of my paintings in an exhibition in Oxford called "The Figure in the Twentieth Century". This is the subject of my work.
Sometimes you can make a painting clear, sometimes they come out obscure. That's a risk you take - it's part of the fun.
The audience you are speaking with knows more than you do, more things, more places, more faces, more histories. Within all this there is the probability of a two-way communication. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Where it has worked I'm happy.
It has worked in solo exhibitions in London, Somerset, New York and Austria. |
